Having developed Premature Ovarian Failure as a teenager (sort of like early menopause), conceiving on my own was nearly impossible. This is the timeline of growing our family through embryo adoption!
THE BEGINNING
May 1996 – age 12 – began menstruating
1998 – age 14 – stopped menstruating
1999 - age 15 – After 18 months of no periods, I was referred to a pediatric gynecologist. Diagnosed with “Oophoritis” (inflamed ovaries). Told to take BCP and see a doctor when I was ready to have kids.
2001 - Started dating Robert (my husband).
August 5, 2006 – Married Robert.
April 2007 - age 22 – Referred to a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) by my Endocrinologist. Finally got a real diagnosis of Premature Ovarian Failure (POF). Told donor egg IVF would be our only option.
March 2009 - Traveled to the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD for Premature Ovarian Failure study. Concluded Premature Ovarian Failure was likely caused by an autoimmune condition. Introduced to the option of embryo adoption by Dr. Nelson.
May 2009 - Pregnant Naturally!!! Or not..One week later...Negative Beta. I was "mis-diagnosed" pregnant by my GYN.
EMBRYO ADOPTION #1
December 2009 - Met with RE to discuss starting TTC and embryo adoption.
February 2010 - Application accepted with the National Embryo Donation Center.
August 2, 2010 - Mock Transfer at NEDC
September 2010 - Home study complete. Matched with 5 embryos.
November 16, 2010 - FET#1. Thawed all 5 (Multicell) embryos. 3 embryos survived and transferred. No remaining embryos.
November 26, 2010 - POAS. BFP.
November 29, 2010 - Beta #1(13dp3dt) - 993
December 1, 2010 - Beta #2 (15dp3dt) - 3031
December 15, 2010 - First u/s. One heartbeat. One sac.
March 12, 2011 – Admitted to hospital for bleeding at 19 weeks. 5 days bed rest. All tests are normal – return to normal activity.
July 3, 2011 - Leland born at 35 weeks due to low amniotic fluid.
EMBRYO ADOPTION #2
September 2013 - Began process for second embryo adoption (EA#2)
November 2013 - Matched through Miracles Waiting (We matched through Miracles Waiting with embryos already at the NEDC since we were wanting to return to the NEDC anyways - it's called a "directed donation" with the NEDC)
March 3, 2014 - Mock Transfer at NEDC
May 18, 2014 - FET#1 for EA#2. Thawed all 4 blastocysts. 2 embryos survived (graded 4AA and 5AA). No remaining embryos.
May 25, 2014 - POAS. BFP.
May 27, 2014 - Beta #1(9dp5dt) - 171
May 29, 2014 - Beta #2 (11dp5dt) - 414
June 10, 2014 - Bleeding (Called my RE & Moved up my 1st u/s)
June 11, 2014 - First u/s at 6w1d. Twins! Can barely see two flickering heartbeats.
June 16, 2014 - Follow-up u/s at 6w6d. Two Strong Heartbeats!
